Mnemonics and the Rubiks Middle Tier

 Contents..

This table is about acrostics for making red edges arrive at the red face; and orange edges arrive at the orange face. It imagines that the middle tier already has the 4 middle tier edges but at the wrong faces.

The acrostics (below) use the first letter of words to indicate which Tri move to do.

But the 'W' words like 'Winter' indicate that the Whole cube needs to be rotated in the direction about to be indicated. 'Winter Robin' is therefore "move the whole cube Rightwards so that a tri move can soon be done to the right side face". "W.. B..." is to turn the whole cube to the back Orange face; and "W.. F.. " is to get the cube back to the front Red face.

The 'S' move is also a move that is not a .Tri-..' move. It just turns the top of the cube clockwise. So two 'S' words would mean two clockwise turns of the top of the cube.

If a piece at the red face has a blue sticker then treat it as if it is a red edge: R;

If a piece at the orange face has a blue sticker then treat it as if it is an orange edge: O;

in that way, the reference table below can be applied to whatever 4 edges there are. And I examine them left to right at the red face and, if I was then looking at the orage face, left to right again [which is right to left if asssessing the orange face from the point of view of having the red face facing you].

Next, the edges need flipping if a dominant sticker of a red or orange piece is not red or orange:

Here, G means 'good. Do not change'; F means Flip its sticker; M means 'Move it'; and V means 'Flip and move it'.

It is not just seeing that the red face need 2 edges flipped and the orange face needs 2 pieces flipped and moved but also an awareness of how the top blue face is changing as a result of fixing both middle tier faces.

I have a numeric order to regard the blue face edges. A piece at position 1 might end up at position 2 by the time a manoeuvre is finished; and, if it is flipped then the number 5 is written in the table below at that position 2: (1+4). If the 2 piece flips then it is a 6 (2+4); if the 3 piece flips then it is 7; and if the 4 piece flips then it is 8.

As mentioned earlier, sometimes, an alternative technique is used if a middle tier edge piece has a blue sticker:

I need to test all this out; and my aim, in 2021, is to test that these tables are correct.
